Convert TIFF to PDF in 4 steps
- 1
Add your TIFF files
Open TIFF to PDF and drop .tif or .tiff files onto Select TIFF images. Limits are higher than the other image tools: 50 files, 100 MB each, 500 MB in total.
- 2
Check pages and order
A multi-page TIFF shows a badge such as 12 pages on its card. Order the files with Up and Down. Pages inside one TIFF keep their original order.
- 3
Choose a page size
For scanned documents, pick A4 or Letter with Orientation set to Auto (match image). Set Margin to None so the scan fills the sheet as it did on paper.
- 4
Convert
The button shows the total, for example Convert 3 images to PDF (27 pages). Click it and then Download PDF.
Why Fit to image gives huge pages with TIFF scans
Scanners save TIFFs at high resolution, often 300 DPI. An A4 page at 300 DPI is about 2480 × 3508 pixels. The Fit to image option sizes each page at one point per pixel and ignores the DPI stored in the TIFF, so that scan becomes a page about 34 × 49 inches. It looks fine on screen but confuses print dialogs and upload forms that check page size. Pick A4 or Letter for scans, and keep Fit to image for photos and artwork.
Which TIFF compressions work?
TIFF is a container that can hold many kinds of compression. The tool decodes uncompressed, LZW, Deflate, PackBits, JPEG, and CCITT Group 3 and Group 4 fax TIFFs. That covers office scanners, fax servers and most image editors.
It can't decode TIFFs compressed with JPEG 2000, JBIG2, Zstandard, WebP or LZMA. You'll see a message naming the page and its compression. Open the file in an image editor and re-save it as an uncompressed, LZW or Deflate TIFF, or as PNG, then try again.
How the scan is stored in the PDF
- Black-and-white and grayscale pages (faxes, text scans) are stored losslessly as grayscale PNG. Text stays crisp and the file stays compact.
- Colour pages are stored as JPEG at 92% quality, which keeps colour scans and photos at a sensible size.
- Pages with transparency are stored as PNG so the transparent areas are kept.
- Thumbnails that some scanners embed as reduced-resolution copies are skipped, so you don't get duplicate tiny pages.
- Very large pages beyond about 40 megapixels, or wider than 16,384 pixels, are scaled down to fit what a browser can draw.
TIFF to PDF on a Mac or with ImageMagick
On a Mac, open the TIFF in Preview and choose File > Export as PDF. Preview shows multi-page TIFFs as thumbnails in the sidebar. With ImageMagick installed, magick input.tif output.pdf converts every page. For batches of scans without installing anything, use TIFF to PDF. To make the scanned text searchable afterwards, you'll need an OCR tool; this conversion keeps pages as images.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert only some pages of a multi-page TIFF?
Convert the whole file, then keep the pages you want with Extract Pages or drop others with Delete Pages.
Can I go back from PDF to TIFF?
Yes. PDF to TIFF renders pages into a TIFF file.
Why is my TIFF bigger than 25 MB accepted here but not in Images to PDF?
TIFF to PDF allows 100 MB per file because scans are large. Images to PDF uses the general 25 MB limit.
Are scans uploaded anywhere?
No. Files are processed in your browser. Read more in the privacy notes.
